Norsk Hostfest

October 13th

Here I am with my new Norwegian friend as he spins angora wool into yarn at the Norsk Hostfest. I bought the ball which I am holding in my hand. It makes me feel sort of connected to my pioneer ancestors who did not have today's machine processsed yarns to work with. The angora ball is a little coarse textured but very soft and seemingly dense. He told me to use bamboo needles so it wouldn't snag and to knit the item 2 sizes smaller than I wanted because the yarn had yet to "grow." (Stretch maybe?) I will need to make something very special since I paid a pretty special price ! This gentleman was one of the highlights of the event for me. The other things I most enjoyed were eating a piece of vineterta at an Icelandic booth and hearing Charlie Pride and his son Dion. In addition, dad picked 10 bags of Haraldson apples-- which are great to cook with-- but so far I have just enjoyed munching on.

The leaves in Eastern Dakota have pretty much fallen and the folks are raking and blowing in nearly every yard. Here thay have completely changed to beautiful yellows and oranges and reds, but still cling to the branches. I am sure ours will also fall before long. I don't know if we have officially had a frost. Some of my plants have died, but not the others... Cold weather is on the way.

Keep warm ! Happy October. xoxoxo Noanie

I was drooling over that booth at the Hostfest! Makes me want to raise Angora Rabbits.
