The Babies

Hi friends. Here are a few pictures of the current Casa Jackson family. This is Julio. He was one of the littlest babies when he came to Casa Jackson. Though he's grown bigger and stronger, he still has a lot of difficulty eating. He often needs to be fed spoonful by spoonful and even then he doesn't like it. He is very sweet and playful and loves every small bit of attention.
Here is Cesar. He is growing rapidly and has learned to walk and to compete for toys and attention. We keep the babies until they are 110% of their optimal weight so they can lose just a wee bit during their adjustment phase of going home. While they are with us, their families are educated in nutrition and childcare, and given whatever additional help they need so that the child/ or children don't end up severely malnourished again.

This is Henri. He came to us as a 4 pounder and now must be about 10 pounds. He LOVES to eat and can be quite demanding. You can feel his strong personality especially if he wants to be held and you want to put him down. He will be leaving soon.

And this little sleeping beauty is Angelica. At 4 pounds she needs feedings every 3 hours and special attention that she is adequately warm. She cries quietly, like a kitten.
However, she is not the smallest baby at Casa Jackson. We have little Guadelupe who is shy of 2 pounds. Even in the US, her situation would be precarious. I don't have a picture of her since she is in isolation because of her premature imune system. Her mom and the nurse take care of her and the rest of us are content with little peeks here and there.
And the blog wouldn't be complete without Alberto. He is the little boy I showed you several blogs ago. He is changing daily. He runs, speaks in sentences, feeds himself, does puzzles and colors. Unbelievable that 10 mo ago he couldn't lift up his head and never, ever smiled. His home situation is poor and he is essentially unwanted by his family. Please pray that we can find a loving situation for him.

On the home front, there was a pretty sizable earthquake off the Pacific coast of Mexico on Saturday (6.2 on the Richter Scale) We felt it moderately in Antiqua. I was talking to Nicole while laying on my bed and it began to sway. It lasted only 40 to 45 seconds so I hardly had time to be afraid.

On Sunday I went to Mass at La Merced. I was saddened by the diminishing numbers of ladies wearing the traditional tipica clothing. Alas. The pigeons were still there is generous numbers however.
Luis came on Sunday evening and we went out for sandwiches and soup. (There are no meals served at my home on Sundays.)  We found an autobiography Warren J had written in Spanish in 1996 on my notebook computer and we laughed for an hour at least.

It is time to find a tuc tuc (3 wheel taxi) and head for CJ for the evening shift. Have a good week. XOXO

I am so glad that your job at the Dreamer's Center doesn't take up all your time and you have time to work at Casa Jackson. Alberto looks wonderful ! See you soon.
