I received a great letter yesterday from my Godson in Guatemala. Here is Luis in a photo with Patrick Atkinson (bearded!) Luis' sister and niece. Luis is currently working in the Homeless Program at the God's Child Project in Guatemala. He personally has a long history with drugs, alcohol, jail, and poverty. Currently, he supports his wife and four kids and has been 100% clean for about 8 years. I have visited him 5 or 6 times over the years and provided love and encouragement. His personal strength in the face of adversity amazes me.
Patrick started the Project about 20 years ago with 6 homeless kids and an old "barn." It has grown in fits and starts to caring for about 10,000 kids today, providing education, food, medical care, and especially HOPE. I don't want to use this blog for solicitation purposes, but do visit their site at www.godschild.org and see if some new friends are waiting for you.
