Oct 3- The Little Flower

It is another near perfect day in North Dakota land. The smells and colors of fall are all around and the high was 78 degrees. I think I should buy a pumpkin... or maybe a pumpkin pie. Mmm, happy thoughts.

Today I felted a little clutch purse which I made the past 2 evenings. Real wool from sheep, yaks, llamas, etc has microscopic barbs which fuse to each other when hot and wet. It becomes a very sturdy matted fabric with properties which are quite different from the original. Man made yarns of nylon, silk, polyester, cotton, bamboo etc lack the little barbs and don't do this. They are then "washable" in warm water without changes. Real wool from animals can be "spun," but man made yarns must be twisted together. Here are pix of the results. All wools do not felt in the same manner either. This wool felted more tightly on the vertical than the horizontal-- so the purse became a clutch. Nature is really a wonder. I am thankful.
